06.14.07 OPTICLASH 2 VJ BATTLE: I won!?
Last night was the second annual OPTICLASH VJ BATTLE and I won!!! It's not so much that I defeated anyone, it's more like I "survived"! Any one of the VJs could have won...I was just lucky enough to be the last one standing! I was very humbled by the experience and very excited, all at the same time.
One of the things I was most proud of, on a personal note, was that I stuck with my "strategy" and it totally worked out - much to my surprise!
I was a little worried about my first round set, using clips I very rarely use and a technique I'm not completely skilled at, but I decided to stick with it and see what happened. When I got so many nice compliments after my "gamble", I thought "Oh my God, that might have worked!"
In the second round, I felt more confident as I was going to just let it fly using my normal style. After surviving round one, I felt "Good, at least I made it to the second round, I'll get to play the set I want, and maybe some people will remember me!" LOL - Well, hearing people yell out my name during round two was AMAZING! What a thrill - and a nice change from directing people to the bathroom!
Somehow I ended up in round three and I was a little worried because I had a "concept" that I hoped I could tell over the 30 minute round, but wasn't too crazy about it (feeling it might be a little obvious and not all that original). As it turned out, the music was all over the map - which was expected - but because of all the changes in tempos, moods and styles, my "concept" got a little lost - which was fine!!! - It allowed me to play differently than my round two set and thus, probably had the weird affect of making me look more "versatile" than I actually am! So in the end, I wound up winning! Wow. It was very exciting!!
All in all it was a magical night and an honor to be a part of. Not a bad way to celebrate my 200th career VJ performance!
06.04.07 Busy getting ready for this Saturday's "VJ Seminar". I think it's going to be great. The hardest part is editing down the sessions to fit into an hour. Obviously, this is going to morph into a four day event at some point. Maybe part of "VJ FAIR" :)
